MAP NOTES
What to take with you
- Listen for the key noun and final question form
- A short はい/いいえ plus the needed detail is enough
- Store wording varies, so confirm when you are unsure
Predict the interaction
At a convenience store, many questions follow a small number of patterns. The cashier may ask about a bag, heating food, a loyalty card, or the payment method. Knowing the situation helps you identify the key word.
Answer the decision first
If you hear 袋は ご利用ですか, answer はい、お願いします or いいえ、大丈夫です. A complete textbook sentence is unnecessary. Clear, polite, short answers work well at a busy register.
Payment language
When asked お支払いは?, name the method: カードで お願いします or 現金で お願いします. If you did not hear, say すみません、もう一度 お願いします.
Expect variation
Different stores and staff use different wording. Treat these examples as listening landmarks, not a script every cashier must follow. The goal is to recognize the decision being requested.
