MAP NOTES
What to take with you
- Begin by naming the procedure you came for
- Use どの窓口ですか to find the correct counter
- Repeat document names and deadlines before leaving
State your purpose at the information desk
Start with 〜の手続きに 来ました, meaning “I came for the procedure for ….” Add the name written on your notice or document. Showing the official paper while speaking reduces ambiguity.
Find the correct counter
Ask どの窓口ですか for the correct service counter. 窓口 literally means a window or counter and is widely used for public-service desks.
Confirm the required items
Use 必要な書類は 何ですか to ask which documents are required. Write down unfamiliar document names. Rules and required items depend on the municipality and procedure, so the office’s current instructions are the authority.
Close the loop
Before leaving, confirm the deadline and next step: いつまでですか and 次は 何を しますか. These questions turn a complex explanation into two practical actions.
