YOUR N4 COMPASS

Connect basic grammar, vocabulary, and kanji into practical everyday understanding.

A foundation level for learners who can read kana and already control the main patterns introduced at N5.

THE OFFICIAL TARGET, MADE CLEAR

What N4 asks you to understand.

READING

What you should be able to read

Follow passages on familiar daily topics when they use basic vocabulary and kanji.

LISTENING

What you should be able to follow

Generally follow daily-life conversations when the speakers talk slowly.

FOUR STUDY PRIORITIES

Keep the plan focused.

Use these as weekly planning categories. If one remains weak, give it a specific exercise and a visible amount of time.

  1. 01Connected grammar patterns
  2. 02Everyday kanji in context
  3. 03Paragraph-level reading
  4. 04Following a complete conversation

ONE CLEAR ROUTE

A practical route toward N4.

Move forward only after you can explain what caused your mistakes. The aim is steady control, not a pile of disconnected resources.

  1. STEP 01Review N5 gaps before adding new material.
  2. STEP 02Group grammar by meaning and contrast similar patterns.
  3. STEP 03Move from isolated sentences to short paragraphs.
  4. STEP 04Listen once for the situation and again for the detail.
