What was released
On August 28, 2026, the Japan Foundation Japanese-Language Institute, Kansai announced Indonesian versions of KANJI Memory Hint 1, 2, and 3. The official product page now lists English, Thai, and Indonesian versions.
How the app organizes kanji
The Foundation describes three main activities: remembering a character through an associated illustration, learning it inside words, and checking recall. Games also match kanji with their form, meaning, and reading. This is a route into kanji, not a claim that one picture explains every use of a character.
Why the language of explanation matters
A learner may study Japanese through English, Indonesian, Thai, or another strong language. Multilingual support can lower the cost of understanding an instruction while keeping the Japanese form at the center. It also reminds us that the global Japanese-learning community does not share one first language.
Japanese for talking about kanji
字形(じけい) is the written form of a character, 読み(よみ) is its reading, and 意味(いみ) is meaning. 連想(れんそう) means association: connecting an image or idea with something you want to remember. In real vocabulary, one kanji can have more than one reading.
A practical study loop
Choose a small set, learn each kanji inside a word, and test recognition in both directions: form to word and word to form. Then meet it in a sentence. Check the official app page for supported languages and current store availability.
