MAP NOTES
What to take with you
- Say the main symptom and when it began
- Bring accurate information about medicines, allergies, and medical history
- Use professional interpretation or multilingual support when available
Start with the main symptom
At reception, say the main problem in a short sentence: 熱が あります or おなかが 痛いです. Add when it began: きのうからです. Do not guess a diagnosis in Japanese when you can describe the symptom.
Prepare essential information
Carry the names and doses of medicines you take, known allergies, and relevant medical history in an accurate written form. A language lesson cannot replace clinical communication.
Ask for language support
You can ask 英語で 対応できますか or 通訳は いますか. JNTO provides an official guide and medical-institution search for foreign visitors. Availability differs by facility, so contact the institution when possible.
Confirm the next step
Ask 次は どこへ 行きますか and write down instructions. For emergencies, use official emergency services. The phrases here support communication and are not medical advice.
